Monaghan v Armagh U18s 07/01
Unfortunately, due to a number of injuries, unavailability, and late withdrawals, we started the game with 14 players. Armagh also had 14 players to start. Monaghan kicked off and started brightly and had a period of sustained pressure, which resulted in a penalty from Maitiú McArdle.
After the restart and some slack tackling, Armagh scored a try in the corner, missing the conversion. The score came at a cost with Gareth and Cormac having to go off for cuts on the head. Gareth was unable to continue giving Armagh a numerical advantage along with a scoreboard advantage.
The scoreboard advantage didn’t last too long as Daniel Prunty kicked through for a chase with the ball bouncing back off the cross bar for Daniel to reclaim and score. Daniel also converted.
Armagh responded with another penalty to make it 10-8 to Monaghan just before the break. A spell of good play just before the 1/2 resulted with Liam Hamill getting over just before the break with Daniel converting. Unfortunately, Liam took a knock and was unable to continue. HT 17-8 to Monaghan.
The second half stared with sustained pressure from Armagh against the 12 remaining Monaghan players. The Monaghan lads defended really well and forced a number of errors from Armagh. After so good interplay, Monaghan scored in the corner through Maitiú McArdle. Conversion missed before Maitiú scored another penalty shortly after.
A prolonged spirited passage of play from Armagh with excellent carrying and skill level resulted in a try under the posts with 10 minutes remaining. Conversion was good. 25-17 to Monaghan.
Armagh put great pressure on in the final 10 mins with great defence from Monaghan. A breakdown field resulted in Armagh getting penalised at the ruck, their player getting yellow carded, and Maitiú kicking the final three points with a couple of mins left to play. Final score 28-17.
A great gutsy performance, especially in the second half, facing a hard running Armagh side.

MRFC U14 Provincial 29 -7 victory over Cavan Match report!
#mrfc #monaghanrugby ...
Monaghan U18’s travelled to Clogher Valley, where they faced a combined Cavan RFC and Clogher Valley RFC U18’s side. Unfortunately, due to football final commitments, a few injuries and other unavailability, Monaghan were only able to field a team of 12 players.
Despite our lack of numbers, Monaghan started the game very well and were on the scoreboard early when Alessandro found a gap to go over in the corner. Unfortunately, the conversion was missed.
Gradually Clogher Valley/Cavan took advantage of the extra numbers and began to get control of the game. With the final score being 22-5.
It was a valiant effort by all the lads, with some real resilience shown in defence at times through the game. A game that will stand to the lads as the season progresses. ...

The players of Monaghan RFC and PSNI RFC observed a minutes silence in memory of all those who lost their lives at Creeslough yesterday before their match at Portadown today.
We especially remember Letterkenny RFC player Leona Harper, may she rest in peace. Leona, her family, teammates and all at Letterkenny RFC are in our thoughts at this devastating time! ...
Monaghan U18s got their season underway with a potentially tricky fixture away against Belfast Met/Inst. Unfortunately Belfast Met could only field 11 players. We agreed that we would give them 2 players so that we could get some game time under the belt.
The game started with Monaghan getting a couple of early tries before Belfast Met rallied before the break. Monaghan regained control early in the second half. With the ref blowing it up a few mins early as Belfast’s numbers were affected further by injuries.
The game finished 41-12 with scores from Alessandro Cutolo x2, Harvey Colleran x2, Charlie McElroy, Daniel Prunty and Frank Quinn. With Harvey adding the rest from the tee.
Congratulations to all the lads, particularly those who played u18s for the first time. A particular thanks to those who agreed to play for Belfast in what ended up being a very productive morning.
